Bio

Geri Soriano, also known as Geri Soriano-Lightwood, is a Dominican American singer, songwriter, composer, filmmaker, and multimedia artist whose work spans music, film, contemporary dance, and immersive media. Her interdisciplinary practice centers on storytelling through sound and image, often exploring themes of identity, resilience, longing, and transformation through a cross-cultural lens.

She is best known as the frontwoman of the Los Angeles–based electronic group Supreme Beings of Leisure, where for more than two decades she has helped define a sophisticated blend of downtempo, trip-hop, jazz, and cinematic electronica. The band gained international recognition with its self-titled debut in 2000, a release that helped shape the early-2000s lounge/electronic revival and earned placements in film, television, and global advertising campaigns. Soriano’s vocals became a defining element of the group’s sound—marked by smooth phrasing, atmospheric delivery, and emotional precision layered over richly textured electronic production.

Across four full-length albums—Supreme Beings of Leisure (2000), Divine Operating System (2002), 11i (2008), and 22 (2023)—Soriano has served as both vocalist and lyricist, helping to shape the band’s artistic identity. Her writing is characterized by cinematic restraint and emotional nuance, favoring subtle tension over spectacle. The interplay between her lyrics and immersive production creates songs that feel intimate yet expansive, reflective yet forward-moving. Her contributions to the downtempo and electronic landscape remain influential, and her voice continues to be recognized as one of the genre’s most compelling and enduring.

Beyond recording and touring, Soriano’s practice extends deeply into composition and sound design for movement-based and narrative works. She served as musical director and composer for SUKU Dance Lab’s Ella (2015), Me Hago Falta (2017), and Anima (2018), designing immersive sonic environments that supported contemporary choreography and sold-out performances in New York. Her ability to create emotionally responsive soundscapes has made her a sought-after collaborator in interdisciplinary performance contexts. She also composed the theme for the independent film Derelict (2019), expanding her compositional work into narrative cinema.

As a filmmaker and multimedia creator, Soriano has directed and produced music videos and visual projects, including directing “Mirror” for Supreme Beings of Leisure and producing “Strangelove Addiction” and “Never The Same.” She co-directed “Boombox Creators” and the forthcoming documentary Cosas Fea, supported by the 2025 Bistline Grant from Wentworth Institute, and has worked as Director, Sound Designer, and Vocalist for “Positive Mindworks Virtual Reality“, integrating sound, voice, and immersive technology into an experiential digital environment.

Soriano is an Executive Member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) and a Voting Member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), reflecting peer recognition of her engagement across digital innovation and the recording arts.

Across more than three decades, Geri Soriano-Lightwood has cultivated a multidisciplinary artistic practice defined by sonic refinement, narrative depth, and cross-medium experimentation. Her work continues to evolve at the intersection of music, movement, film, and immersive technology,
